Ingredients
For the potatoes
- 2 packs of Nanna Tate Scrumptious Mash
- 50ml olive oil
- 1 large onion, peeled and finely diced
- 1 carrot, peeled and grated
- 1 courgette (optional), grated
- 500g beef mince
- 2tbsp tomato purée
- 1tbsp plain flour
- 4 sprigs fresh thyme, leaves only or 1 tsp dried thyme
- 500ml beef stock
Worcestershire sauce or Henderson’s Relish - Grated cheddar cheese (optional), as a topping
- Salt and black pepper, to taste

Let’s start!
Heat olive oil in a large heavy-based pan. Add the onion and cook until softened.

Mix ‘n’ stir

Add the mince beef, carrot and courgette if using and fry on a high heat until the mince is browned all over. Stir in the tomato purée and cook for 1 minute. Stir in the flour and cook for a further minute. Add the beef stock and thyme and simmer for 25 minutes, or until the mince is tender and the mixture has thickened. Season to taste, and add a few dashes of Worcestershire sauce. Keep warm over a very low heat.

Scrumptious Mash time
In the meantime, cook the Scrumptious Mash according to the instructions on the pack. Preheat the grill to high. Transfer the cottage pie filling in to a baking dish and spread the mash evenly on top. Grill for 5-8 minutes until the top is golden and crisp. If you like it cheesy, sprinkle some grated cheese over the mash for the final minute of grilling.
